Manna Jewellers was formerly known as Manna Bros, or Manna Brothers, the meaning of ‘Manna’ being a gift from heaven. By extension, it means any good thing which comes into one's hand by luck or good fortune. Our shop was named after the youngest family brother, Manna. As he was the youngest of 9 siblings, he was considered by our Grandmother as a gift from heaven.
The journey of our shop, Manna Jewellers, is a lively and spirited one, beginning in Surat, the ‘Diamond City of The World’.
We transported our family diamond and gold-smithing skills to Birmingham in 1977, opening our current store in 1984. Our story is now firmly entwined with the historically rich Birmingham Jewellery Quarter.
Always a family run business, Manna Bros in Birmingham started with four brothers. Kanti, Barry, Kish and Bill are now officially retired, although Bill is often tempted back to his beloved bench. The siblings quickly became widely respected in the industry as master craftsmen providing much valued jewellery services for over four decades.
From the very beginning, jewellery manufacture, repair and restoration has been at the heart of our business. The workshop remains full of manufacturing memorabilia and tools, many of which remain in use today. We will always be artisans, making, as well as retailing our jewellery.
The nearby Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is a perfectly preserved jewellery workshop offering a unique glimpse of working life in the jewellery world. It draws many parallels with our Manna history.
